Recover your wallet on a new or lost phone

To get your wallet back on a new phone, import it with its mnemonic phrase, or with its private key if you imported it that way. Your assets are on the blockchain, not on your phone, so they come back with the wallet.

FxWallet has no cloud backup and can't recover a wallet for you. Without the mnemonic phrase or private key, a wallet on a lost or reset phone can't be restored, and its assets are lost.

Restore a wallet​

  1. Install FxWallet from an official source. See Download FxWallet and check it's genuine.
  2. Tap Import Existing Wallet, then tap Mnemonic Phrase / Private Key.
  3. Enter the mnemonic phrase, with a space between the words, or the private key, then tap Next Step. For a private key, also choose the network under Select Chain. Importing a private key needs an internet connection.
  4. Set up Face ID, your fingerprint or a passcode to unlock FxWallet on this phone.

Repeat these steps for each wallet you had. Wallet names don't come back, but you can rename the wallets.

Get your other accounts back​

A mnemonic phrase restores the wallet's first account. If you had added more accounts, add them again in the same order: go to Me → Wallet Management, select the wallet and tap Add Account. They come back with the same addresses.

Set up everything else again​

Only the wallet comes back. FxWallet keeps these on your phone, so add them again after a new install:

  • Watch wallets, and cold and hardware wallets. Connect cold and hardware wallets again; never type their recovery phrase into FxWallet.
  • Custom tokens and custom networks.
  • Your address book.
  • DApp favorites and custom DApps.
  • Settings such as currency, language and theme.

Your balances and transaction history come back once the wallet is imported. Your Market Watchlist, price alerts and watched addresses don't, so set them up again.

If your phone was lost or stolen​

Restore your wallet on another phone. If anyone could have seen your mnemonic phrase or private key, for example because it was saved on the lost phone as a photo or a note, move your assets to a new wallet at once. See What to do if your wallet is compromised.

The passcode protects FxWallet on the lost phone, but FxWallet can't lock or erase the app from a distance.
