Check a token before you buy it

Before you buy a token you found in Market, check that it's the token you mean, that it isn't flagged as risky, and that you could sell it again. Being in Market, in a list such as top gainers or trending, or in a Market Feed card doesn't mean a token is safe or that FxWallet recommends it.

Check the token

On the token's page:

  1. Make sure it's the token you mean. Several tokens can share a name, a symbol and a logo. Compare Contract address under Token Info, and the network, with the ones on the project's official website. Find that website through a source you already trust, not through the token page's Website link or a link someone sent you.
  2. Read the risk check. Risk Assessment is an automated check of the token's contract by GoPlus, a third-party security service. Tap its summary to see each item.
    • High risk: the contract can stop you buying or selling, the developer can change balances, freeze accounts or take back control, or a buy or sale is taxed more than 10%. Tokens like these are often scams: see Tokens you can't sell.
    • Moderate: something needs a closer look, such as source code that isn't public, a contract that can create more tokens, a trading tax or low liquidity.
    • Low risk isn't a guarantee: the check can miss new tricks, and some contracts can be changed after you buy.
    • No Risk Assessment, or Unknown, means FxWallet has no risk data for the token. That doesn't make it safe.
  3. Check that you could sell it. Liquidity is the money in trading pools for the token. When it's low, your trade moves the price against you, and a large sale may find no buyer at a fair price. A high Top 10 holding share under Large-holder Distribution means a few addresses could sell at once and crash the price.
  4. Compare the two values. Market cap counts the tokens in circulation, and Fully diluted valuation every token there will ever be. When the second is much larger, many tokens are still to be released, and their sale can push the price down.
  5. If you're unsure, start small. Buy a little and sell part of it before you buy more. It costs two network fees, but it shows whether you can sell.

Buy the token

Buy opens Swap with the token filled in. On EVM networks, Swap won't let you buy a token that its security data flags as a scam, and it warns you about a high tax or price impact. See Why can't I swap this token?

warning

A swap can't be reversed, and no check catches every scam. If a token turns out to be one, nobody can get your money back, FxWallet included.

Check the token, the network and the amount before you confirm. See Swap fees and slippage for what a swap costs.
