Update FxWallet on your offline phone only when you need to, and in a way that keeps your keys off any phone that is online. On Android, you can install the update without going online. On iPhone, the safest way is to reset the phone and import your wallet again.

## When to update

FxWallet never asks the offline phone to update while it is offline, and an offline phone with FxWallet 2.17.7 or later keeps signing for the networks it already supports. Update only when:

- You want to use a network that FxWallet added later: the online phone shows "Now supported" with **Add via your cold wallet**.
- The offline phone can't sign a transaction from the online phone. For example, Siacoin (SC) transactions prepared on FxWallet 3.3.0 or later need FxWallet 3.3.0 or later on the offline phone too.

To see the version on the offline phone, go to **Me** → **About Us**.

## Android: install the APK without going online

1. On a computer, download the APK from [www.fxwallet.com/download](https://www.fxwallet.com/download#apk) and check its SHA-256 as that page shows.
2. Keep the offline phone in airplane mode with Wi-Fi off. Connect it to the computer with a USB cable, choose file transfer on the phone, and copy the APK to it.
3. On the offline phone, open the APK in the **Files** app and tap **Install**. If Android asks, allow **Files** to install unknown apps. Your wallets stay on the phone.

If the APK doesn't install over FxWallet, the app on the phone probably came from Google Play.

> **Danger**
>
> Uninstalling FxWallet removes its wallets from the phone, and only their mnemonic phrases can bring them back. Continue only if you have every one on paper: see [Back up your mnemonic](https://docs.fxwallet.com/get-started/back-up-your-mnemonic).

Uninstall FxWallet, install the APK, then import each wallet: **Import Existing Wallet** → **Mnemonic Phrase / Private Key**. The phone stays offline throughout.

The APK runs only on 64-bit ARM phones. If yours can't install it, follow the iPhone steps with Google Play instead of the App Store.

## iPhone: reset and import again

An iPhone can update apps only from the App Store, online. Resetting first means your keys are never on the phone while it is online.

> **Danger**
>
> Resetting the phone erases FxWallet and its wallets. Continue only if you have every mnemonic phrase on paper.

1. Reset the phone to its factory settings.
2. Go online and install FxWallet from the [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fxwallet/id1560943983). Don't create or import a wallet yet.
3. Turn on airplane mode, and check that Wi-Fi, mobile data and Bluetooth are off.
4. Open FxWallet and import each wallet: **Import Existing Wallet** → **Mnemonic Phrase / Private Key**.

### Update without resetting

If you'd rather not reset the phone, you can update from the App Store, but the phone that holds your keys goes online for a few minutes.

1. Check that you have every mnemonic phrase on paper, and close FxWallet.

   :::warning

While the phone is online, its keys are no longer cold. Stay online only as long as the update takes, and don't open FxWallet until the phone is offline again.

2. Turn off airplane mode and update FxWallet in the App Store.
3. Turn airplane mode back on, check that Wi-Fi, mobile data and Bluetooth are off, then open FxWallet.

## After the update

The online phone keeps working with the offline phone: the same mnemonic phrase gives the same wallet, so you don't need to connect again. If you imported again and a transaction shows **Account Not Found**, add that account on the offline phone. To add new networks, see [Add accounts or networks](https://docs.fxwallet.com/cold-and-hardware-wallets/cold-wallet-mode#add-accounts-or-networks).
